Getting Started

Here's how to use this new service:

• Visit the Listen Up Vermont web site and read the Quick Start Guide. We strongly recommend reading the Quick Start Guide completely before going any further. If you don't find what you are looking for in the guide, try the FAQ (link here) section of the site.
• Download the Overdrive Media Console software that you'll need. If you have a dial-up connection, this step may take some time. In some cases you may also have to upgrade the security of your Windows Media Player. Just follow the directions to complete this process.
• Visit the Listen Up Vermont site. and click the sig in link at the top of the page. Select St. Johnsbury Athenaeum from the list of libraries. Make sure that you have your library card handy as you will have to enter your library card barcode.
• Search for books either using our Online Catalog or at Listen Up Vermont. You may check out a maximum of two books and they are checked out for seven days. After seven days, the books will no longer be available.
• When you are ready, click the Checkout link to start the downloading process. You can download either an entire book or selected chapters.

• Directions for downloading Overdrive to a PC and downloading audiobooks (including to an iPod can be found here.

Selecting Books for Downloading

You can use our online catalog to search for books. If book is downloadable, you will see a microphone at the beginning of the information and the book will NOT have a call number. Click the book title link, and then click the Click Here to Access Title link. This will link directly to the Listen Up Vermont web site. The illustration below shows a sample search in our Online Catalog - note the entry with no call number.

Once you have found a book that you wish to download, check that there is an add to basket link indicating that the title is available for downloading. If so, click the link to add the title to your basket.

When you are finished browsing, click the Proceed to Checkout link.
